French Polynesia is located in the middle of the South Pacific, covering some 4.5 millions square kilometers of ocean. This French Overseas Territory dry land includes 5 groups of islands (The Society Islands, the Marquesas, the Australs, the Tuamotus, and the Gambiers) which are of volcanic and coral origin. Tahiti in Society Islands is the main island with 2,042 km2 and mountains peak over 2,200m. Tahiti is the largest island of Polynesia.
French Polynesia counts about 216,000 people, 150,000 of which live in Tahiti. With over 50% of its population under 18, Tahiti is truly a 'Children's Island'.
Moorea is an island of volcanic origin, situated 12 nautical miles to the Northwest of Tahiti. Moorea's lagoon, together with Bora Bora's is one of the most beautiful in the Society Islands.
Moorea has nearly 12,000 inhabitants with 48% of the population under 20.
All the hotel rooms in Moorea Island are made of wood with palm tree leaves as roof.
Man or woman, local Polynesians love tattoo, Sometimes you can even see a young man with tattoo all over his body.
On the way back to Auckland, we stopped in Cook Islands for 45 minutes.

Ia Ora beach is the best in Moores Island. The green color is caused by the coral under the water.
